Luxury goods show to sparkleThursday, 30th March 2006 (4073 views) The BaselWorld 2006 World Watch and Jewellery Show opens in Switzerland on Thursday and it is expected that some 90,000 visitors will walk through its doors.Billed as "the world's largest and most important trade show for the watch and jewellery industry", BaselWorld will run until April 6th and will gather together more than 2,000 watch and jewellery exhibitors from 45 countries. This year's primary focus is likely to be high-end pieces, partly because of record high metal prices and consumer demands for deluxe watches and jewellery. A new internal layout featuring multi-floor stands in Hall Two has created a terrific platform for the world's leading luxury brands to display their finest offerings. The show offers 160,000 square metres of exhibition area, where visitors can browse a selection of products in luxurious surroundings. Show organiser Rene Kamm, chief executive of MCH Swiss Exhibition, predicted a good year for luxury goods. Speaking at a pre-show press conference, he said: "If we can believe the stock market analysts, who are tipping shares of the major players in the luxury goods industry, there are indications of sustained high demand for luxury goods."
