Kroc of jewels at Christie'sThursday, 16th March 2006 (3950 views) The first spring auction at Christie's will feature the jewellery collection of Joan Kroc.Opulent pieces from the wife of Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald's, will provide the centrepiece for the Magnificent Jewels sale, which will take place in New York on April 11th. A diamond necklace mounted in 18-carat gold and platinum could well provide the highlight, with an estimated worth of between $1 million and $1.5 million. The Harry Winston necklace contains a 42.13-carat pear-shaped yellow diamond gobstopper, ensuring it will turn collectors' heads. A number of other scintillating pieces will hit the auction block in the first event on the auctioneer's spring calendar. This includes a rare blue-grey diamond ring and a 50-plus carat diamond. Signed pieces from designers such as Rene Boivin will also go under the hammer. It's a good time for premier auction houses at the moment, with rival Sotheby's posting record-breaking takings of $513.5 million last year.
