British Museum takes ancient gold to ChinaWednesday, 15th March 2006 (3669 views) Gold artefacts will be among the ancient items on display in Beijing later this month as the British Museum's Treasures of the World's Cultures exhibition reaches China.Some 272 Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities feature in the collection, which will be exhibited in the Capital Museum from March 18th to June 5th. Among the treasures on display is a 2,100-year-old gold pendant. The ancient trinket depicts a scene featuring Aphrodite and Eros. Visitors of the exhibition can also glimpse ancient Egyptian tablets, Roman sculptures and Greek busts. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of lectures on world history and will give Chinese history-lovers the chance to view a top-class collection of world antiquities. "The two and a half month exhibition will enable Chinese audiences an opportunity to enjoy the collection of a world class museum without going abroad," the Museum's curator Guo Xiaoling was quoted as saying by China View. The Treasures of the World's Cultures collection has already toured Japan and the Republic of Korea. The British Museum is the oldest national museum in the world.
