With consumers becoming increasingly aware that fine jewellery needs protecting, the choice of receptacle can be just as critical as the trinket itself.

BZ Boxes, which makes elegant cases from exotic Brazilian woods, is certainly one firm that believes the quality of the jewellery should be matched by the quality of the box in which it is kept.

BZ provides customers with a customised service offering unique 18-carat gold leaf designs, a choice of wood linings and engraved metal plaques.

The firm even offers to engrave the customer's initials in gold leaf.

Made by local artisans, the boxes' exteriors are crafted from real wood veneers and the interiors from wood compound. The glass components are all bevelled to match the high quality finish.

Besides jewellery, the boxes can be used for fine watches, pens or cigars.

Owners of gold jewellery are advised to store their prized possessions in a box, or even keep it wrapped up in plain tissue paper.

Gold doesn't tend to tarnish, smudge or discolour but it can lose its lustre over time if it's not kept with proper care.
