Gold and jewellery exhibition opens in IndiaMonday, 20th February 2006 (4109 views) The Gold Jewellery India International Exhibition 2006 kicked off at the Chennai Trade Centre in Chennai, Madras on February 17th.Gold, diamond, platinum and gemstone-studded jewellery was shown at the show, with exhibitors travelling from far and wide to display their wares. They hail from Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jaipur, Delhi and Bangalore, as well as other places. This year's exhibition featured a 99.51-carat diamond necklace decorated with 88 stones worth Rs 3.75 crore, and a gold blouse worth Rs 10 lakh. Institutions related to the gold and jewellery trade, including banks, retailers, importers and machinery suppliers, were all invited to take part in the fair. The show, which is organised by the Madras Jewellery and Diamond Merchants Association, was inaugurated by actor Kamal Haasan. Mr Haasan lit a traditional lamp to signify the opening. He said the exhibition would help grow business for exhibitors, and also noted that customers would benefit from good prices because goods would be sold at wholesale value.
