Tiaras to dazzle visitors at Diana exhibit

Friday, 17th February 2006 (3906 views)

Two diamond tiaras will take pride of place in an exhibition of 150 items relating to Princess Diana's life in Dayton, Ohio.

"Diana, A Celebration" looks at the life and works of Diana, Princess of Wales and will run at the Dayton Art Institute until June 11th.

On show will be the Spencer tiara, which features tulip- and star-shaped flowers in gold and diamonds set in silver.

Alongside it will be the Riviere necklace, containing 46 detachable diamonds set in silver and gold, and another diamond tiara.

Dresses and suits designed by the likes of Chanel and Versace will also be there to dazzle visitors, including a blue-and-white check suit and pillbox hat inspired by Jackie Kennedy.

The travelling exhibition features nine different sections, including Tiara (an introduction), Childhood, Royal Wedding, Style and Condolence. The central exhibit features Diana's wedding dress.

When she married Prince Charles in July 1981, St Paul's Cathedral was filled with important dignitaries from around the world.

It is thought that the televised event was watched by more than one billion people around the globe.
