Doha jewellery exhibition kicks offWednesday, 15th February 2006 (4025 views) Doha's third ever jewellery exhibition was launched yesterday by the prime minister of Qatar. It is hoped by organisers that it will exploit the recent boom in tourists to the region and claims to be more heavily promoted than previous ones. The 3rd Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition boasts over 12,000m2 of floor space to showcase over 150 brands such as Ambrossi and Chanel as well as local jewellers. Sheikh Mohamed bin Ahmed was quoted in the Peninsula as saying that he hoped the exhibition will promote and benefit both the public and private sector. Local businessman Hussain Alfardan has the largest jewellery stall at the exhibition and was reported as saying that products there should be affordable to all. International jewellery exhibitions are becoming increasingly popular in the Gulf states with Bahrain also boasting an annual event. In its first year in 2004, Doha's exhibition attracted 25,000 visitors and organisers believe this will increase in 2006. The exhibition is held in the Qatar International Exhibition Centre and runs until the 19th February.
