FP Journe poised to launch $500,000 watchMonday, 13th February 2006 (4083 views) Swiss watchmaker FP Journe is set to launch a gold-plated watch worth $500,000 in 2007.Company boss Francois-Paul Journe was seen wearing a "test" version of the yet-to-be-released Chronometre Souvrain at the launch of the company's mechanical watches in Qatar yesterday (February 13th). A company spokesperson told The Gulf Times that the eye-catching timepiece sported by Mr Journe would be available to the public as early as next year. The manually-wound, self-made watch contains 18-carat gold base plates and was inspired by marine chronometry. "I am just testing it right now," exclaimed Mr Journe at yesterday's launch in Doha. The mechanical watches now on sale in Qatar begin at a more modest QR48,000, although the range's most expensive model, the Tourbillon Souvrain, costs QR263,800. The timepieces can be purchased at the Al Majed jewellery showroom and will also be on show at the upcoming Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition.
