A hotel in Iowa is offering a Valentine's Day package that includes a gift of gold jewellery, according to kcci.com.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Des Moines is providing a Valentine's Day deal for two lovers in its grand suite that includes a pendant with a 1.8-carat diamond.

The custom made piece also contains a 17-carat diamond on the back.

The item, which has a 14-carat white gold setting, comes from Amerigem's South African Private Label.

Chris Diebolt, from the hotel, believes the item, which comes as part of the $10,000 package that includes a candlelit dinner, is worth around $11,000 itself.

The hotel is also offering a $2,500 deal that includes one-carat diamond earrings and breakfast in bed.

The National Retail Federation claims that 14.6 per cent of consumers are planning to buy jewellery for their loved ones for Valentine's Day.
