Charity auction opts for "bling bling" themeThursday, 9th February 2006 (4004 views) A collection of gold and sparkly baubles will go under the hammer later this month at the American Cancer Society's Silent Auction in Rolla, Missouri. The charity event will be held on February 18th at the Havener Centre and this year's theme is "bling bling". With that in mind, one of the top items on the programme this year is a 14-carat white-gold brooch. Custom designed by Kent Bagnall of Kent Jewellery and featuring 44 round cut diamonds, the brooch is likely to pull in the crowds. Its value is estimated at $3,500 but the organisers are hoping to raise $25,000 in total through a combination of ticket sales and auction revenues. Other top prizes up for auction include four nights in a private Peurto Rico residence and four tickets to a Cardinals baseball game in St. Louis. All prizes are donations. "We are so grateful for the generosity of so many people who are committed to this cause and our mission to fight cancer," committee member Ivana Harris told the Rolla Daily News. "We hope there will be a lot of people joining us at this year's Cancer Gala." Tickets cost $60.
