Jewellers head home from New York showWednesday, 25th January 2006 (3951 views) Jewellers head home from New York showUS jewellers returned to their shops with bulging pockets today (January 25th) after attending the JA New York (JANY) Winter Show. Attracting over 5,000 buyers, JANY represents one of the biggest jewellery events of the season. The exhibition opened on Sunday and ran until Tuesday, with show organisers reporting solid buying levels among attendees, despite some concerns over high oil and gas prices. "A positive mood prevailed. There was good buzz, everybody was happy and buying was strong," Drew Lawsky, the show's director, told the National Jeweller. The event all but ground to a halt last year when a blizzard hit, rendering year-on-year comparisons fruitless. Retailers attending the show also had a chance to compare notes on the big market trends ahead of Valentine's Day. Many used the event to stock up on items that sold well over the holiday season, such as big hoop earrings and circular diamond pendants. Others took a more adventurous route by attempting to sniff out future hits.
