Golfers tee up for gold putter

Wednesday, 18th January 2006 (4039 views)

Two teams will compete for the title of Australia's best Golfing state during February, and the prize is a golden putter.

Members of the Australian Golf Writers Association will compete in a three-day event designed to find which state, Victoria or New South Wales, has the best golfing journalists.

Two teams of six each will compete for the prize, during three days at the Corowa Golf Resort and using a mini Presidents cup format. The contestants will be lead by George Begg for the Victorian team and Micheal Court for the New South Wales squad.

The event will play from February 17th to 19th and is the first of its kind. A 22 carat gold putter awaits the victors, provided courtesy of DINT Putters of Sydney.

Meanwhile gold companies in Australia took a beating in the stock market after US prices slipped, according to AAP.

Firms Newcrest, Newmont and Lihir lost AU$1.29, 47 cents and 12 cents respectively, whilst Australian gold prices also fell by over US$18 to US$543.50.
