Jewellers Birks & Mayors has struck a major deal with renowned jewellery designer Jose Hess.

Under the agreement Birks & Mayors will be the exclusive distributor of the Jose Hess' designs and will have rights over "existing and proposed" merchandise. In addition, Jose Hess himself will act as a consultant for Birks and & Mayors.

Mr Hess will advise Birks & Mayors on manufacturing, product development, and sale of his designs, and will also design jewellery under the Birks name as well as his own.

Thomas Andruskevich, chief executive officer and president of the company, said: "Jose Hess is well-known in this industry as an innovator, artist and craftsman, and his sophisticated designs are a natural fit for Birks & Mayors."

"We are absolutely ecstatic about adding a designer of this calibre to our award-winning team, which will further strengthen our design leadership position within the jewellery industry."

Jose Hess is a veteran of the industry and is president of the jewellery organisation CIBJO, which is attempting to establish worldwide standards within the practice. He has received several jewellery design awards.
