Gold ring pitched up in airport rouse

Monday, 16th January 2006 (4043 views)

US baseball pitching pin-up Jason Stanford polished off an elaborate proposal to girlfriend Kara Leonard by presenting her with an opulent white-gold ring at a Cleveland airport last week.

Staff and passengers at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport watched in awe as the mega-star took to bended knee and produced the white-gold ring.

The ring was encrusted with diamonds totalling two-carats, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The two were about to jet off on holiday and Stanford suspected his girlfriend was expecting him to propose during the trip.

So in order so spice things up, the baseball champion decided he would do the deed at the airport instead and devised an ingenious rouse.

In order to set off the airport detectors, Stanford wore a huge belt buckle. Just as the guards began to pat him down he pulled out the gold ring and got down to business.

The guards were oblivious to Stanford's fame but one onlooker who recognised the star said "it was exciting and pretty cool" to witness the spectacle.
