Gold teddy bear on display

Monday, 9th January 2006 (3973 views)

A teddy bear made from gold thread and adorned with precious stones has gone on display on at a museum in Seoul, Korea, Donga reports.

Crafted by German teddy bear maker Steiff last year, the cuddly toy's body has been woven with strands of the precious metal.

Steiff continued the opulent theme by constructing the bear's nose and lips from 20 diamonds and 21-carat black sapphires.

Anyone sizing up the bear as a potential throwaway late Christmas gift may be forced to think twice, as it is reported to be worth a cool 80 million won – roughly $6.5 million.

But fans of high-end toys are more than welcome to pop along to the 'IQ Museum in City' exhibit at the Korea Press Centre Seoul Gallery for a viewing.

The museum is situation in Taepyeogrro, in the Jung-gu.

Steiff also makes gold-plated teddy bear jewellery. The company began its life in 1877 as a felt mail order outfit.
