Some of the world's best-known brands have applied a gold facelift to their most exclusive products in order to tempt in yuletide shoppers.

Audio-visual vendor LG was first to employ the Midas touch, coating one of its high-end TV sets with gold, the Economic Times reports.

At 71 inches, the product is the world's largest ever plasma display panel (PDP) TV.

The manufacturer thought the only way to match this was by coating parts of the set and related accessories with 24-carat gold paint.

But the golden touch also makes it the world's most expensive PDP, retailing at around $75,000.

Meanwhile, Faberge has also called upon the precious metal to brighten up its vodka products this Christmas.

When US consumers buy Faberge Imperial Vodka at the Victor Hotel in Chicago, they aren't just getting potato-juice.

Instead they will receive the spirit in an enamelled Faberge egg containing 24-carat gold embossed shot glasses and a lead crystal decanter.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Vodka set costs $3,000.
