Canadian gem miner gives golden donationThursday, 8th December 2005 (3866 views) True North Gems has raised $11,111 for charity by auctioning off a gold necklace featuring opulent gems unearthed in its native Canada. The stunning necklace, crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and 19-carat white gold, fetched the five-figure salary last week at a BC Children's Foundation auction in Vancouver's Four Seasons Hotel. The eye-catching piece was also adorned with 3.46 carats of emeralds and 1.9 carats of diamonds, unearthed at its own sites in Canada and Greenland. The donation came as the company attempts to promote its fledgling gem business. The company focuses on recovering emeralds, rubies and sapphires from an array of properties in North America. Although True North Gems is not yet at an exploration stage, recent samples have yielded a large enough supply of gemstones to begin manufacturing jewellery. The company is aiming to be the only Canadian outfit with an integrated business where it mines, cuts, polishes, manufactures and sells jewellery. True North Gems also claims the charity necklace is the first necklace made from emeralds mined in Canada.
