All consumers ordering jewellery from The Gem Diamond Company over the festive period will receive a free pair of pearl earrings set in gold.

The 6 to 7mm Akoya pearl studs are set in 14-carat gold, as are many products from the online retailer.

The Gem Diamond Company is offering the promotion to coincide with its first year in business.

"The pearl giveaway is a gesture to thank our great customers and to demonstrate our commitment to exceeding expectations," commented company president Bryan Boyne, who is a graduate gemmologist of the GIA.

The company specialises in diamonds, precious metals, pearls and gemstones. It offers a diamond laser inscription service as well as creating custom jewellery.

Visitors to its website can browse a database of over 7,000 lab-certified diamonds and can read up on some common jewellery techniques.

For example, it points out that in a bezel setting a thin rim of metal completely encircles the stone, whereas a pave setting involves small bead of precious metals like gold securing the drill holes for diamonds.
