Thai jeweller launches gold barsTuesday, 15th November 2005 (3858 views) Thai jewellery maker and retailer Ausiris has launched two gold bars as the metal continues to experience a global resurgence in price.Thai consumers keen to invest in gold can either opt for a 23-carat version weighing between about 15 and 750 grams or a 24-carat version weighing from 10 grams to one kg. According to the Bangkok Post, there are already 15 brands of gold bar on the Thai market. But Ausiris - a subsidiary of the Baan Chang Thong Group - hopes to win consumers over by offering additional services such as choice of delivery, portfolio arrangement and consulting. Both bars meet international standards. The 23-carat version is certified by Umicore while the 24 carat bar is produced by Swiss outfit PAMP. It won't be a standard over-the-counter purchase - Ausiris plans to deliver the bars to safety deposit boxes at the customer's bank. Gold is more than just a precious metal to many Thais. The country's former name, Siam, means "gold" in Sanskrit. The commodity also functions as a security for Thai people during difficult times.
