Monday, 14th November 2005 (5803 views) SinGem has announced its Jewellery Excellence Awards.The Calcutta-based jewellery training college has handed out several awards to commend both young designers and the best in the business. Webindia123 reports that Young Achievers awards went to Suhani Pittie, Rakesh Agarwal and Akash Vikash Diwan, while the title of Best Lady Jeweller went to Varda Goenka from Diagold. The awards for Best Debut Showroom and Best Showroom went to Kanak Jewellers and Senco Gold Megashop respectively. The centre claims to have over 2,000 trainees and aims to ground its pupils in the underlying theory behind jewellery making, in addition to providing practical training. It offers courses in gemmology, jewellery design, jewellery making and business training. India is the world's biggest consumer of gold jewellery, making jewellery design a desirable profession.
