Prakash Gold Palace (PGP), a Chennai-based jeweller and premier exporter, has opened a new showroom in Mumbai.

The showroom has displayed some impressive forms of gold attire, notably a diamond studded gold skirt that weighs five kilograms.

In addition there was a 22-carat gold jacket, that PGP director DB Prakash Chand Jain said was the first of its type in India. Previously the company released a 3.5 kilogram gold skirt and jacket, but was uncertain about the demand for such products.

He said: "Though we are optimistic about its demand in a city like Mumbai, the focus is on exports."

The Mumbai showroom is the company's first venture into the city.
