India and Australia move closer through gold and diamondsTuesday, 11th October 2005 (5743 views) The gold and diamonds trade is moving the mineral-rich Western Australia and India closer together.India is now Australia's fourth largest trading partner, accounting for 50 per cent of the gold exported from Western Australia. The state's premier Geoff Gallop has said that India is a vital market for promoting the state's businesses, and that there are huge possibilities for the jewellery sectors of both countries. He said: "The gold and diamonds sector was the key driver of growth between the two sides in the last few years. Through joint ventures and partnerships in the mining sector, both can benefit." Currently Mr Gallop is in India for a ten-day visit, and is leading a business delegation between the two countries.
