Italian jewellers expand to Mideast, USA and RussiaMonday, 10th October 2005 (5831 views) A growing demand for Italy's jewellery in the Middle East, USA and Russia has prompted a number of Italian firms to expand their businesses into these areas.Italy is the biggest exporter of fine jewellery in the world. Exports for the first half of the year yielded €1.93 billion, a ten per cent increase from the previous year. Paola De Luca, founder and director of Trends Jewellery Forecasting, said: "Italian brands are very strong, especially for medium-high and high quality products." She added that for Italian goods, the US market was very interested in yellow gold, and that the Arab and Russian customers were increasingly shopping much for Italian jewellery. Russian sales of Italian jewellery were up 40 per cent for the first six months of 2005 compared to 2004, while Arab buying was up 50 per cent in the same period.
