As the Indian festival season begins, fashion experts are saying that individual styles of light and trendy gold jewellery are more popular than ever.

Bistupur, with its reputation for having a wide variety of gold accessories has been preparing for an onslaught of sales by adding a number of items from the Calcutta market.

Monika Jewels, in the city centre, offers mostly semi-precious jewellery ranging from earrings, stone sets and necklaces. Prices are highly affordable with some earrings starting from as little as 80 rupees (£1) and heavier pieces going for 1,800 rupees (£23).

The trendiest accessories can probably be found at the aptly named Get Trendy store. Owner Feroz Ahmed has an enormous collection for both men and women. Gold bracelets and bangles abound and can be found at fantastically low prices.
