Golden goddess Sophia Loren will be the subject of a new Italian exhibition.

Ms Loren, who made her name by appearing in beauty pageants before making it onto the big screen, is a fan of gold jewellery.

The exhibition is sure to have its share of gold as only last week the famous leading lady made an appearance at Giorgio Armani’s fashion show in Milan decked out in gold jewellery, a hot trend for this season.

According to exhibition curator Alessandro Nicosia, Ms Loren is an avid collector and the exhibition will feature many items contributed by her.

"Sophia is a great collector — she has kept all the objects she used on film sets, the out-takes which never made it on to the screen, and all her necklaces and bracelets. It will all be in the show, with her photographs, letters and the costumes from her films," he told The Times.

Due to take place in the spring, the exhibition will be put on at the Victor Emmanuel Monument in Rome.
