Christies to auction gold-set jewelsWednesday, 5th October 2005 (4166 views) Christies in New York is preparing for its Magnificent Jewels auction on October 19th, with some rare gold pieces topping the bill. The top lot at the event will be a rare pink diamond set in a gold and platinum ring, which is expected to fetch between $2.5 and $3 million. However, Rahul Kadakia, head of Christies' jewellery department, has told Forbes that the item is likely to go for much more than that figure. The ring is set with an internally-flawless 25-carat pink diamond mounted in 18-carat rose gold, a variant that has experienced a resurgence in popularity. The anticipated demand for the items to be auctioned at Christies highlights the growing interest in the jewellery market as a whole. The Christies event will also see the sale of a Tiffany & Co necklace and earring set of blue opal mounted in 18-carat gold, expected to fetch in the region of $6,000 to $8,000. Other pieces from this set's designer, Angela Cummings, will also go under the hammer at the auction house.
