Gold Ganpati to be immersedMonday, 12th September 2005 (4171 views) A gold Ganpati idol located in Mumbai, India, will soon be immersed, according to Cybernoon.com.At 18 feet tall and embellished with 50 kilograms of gold and 200 of silver, this Ganpati is renowned for its healing powers. It was installed by Gowd Saraswat Brahmins from South Kanara and has remained here ever since. Dinesh Pai from the G.S.B. Seva Mandal, where the Ganpati is kept, emphasised the Ganpati's wide appeal saying that it drew worshippers from all of society. Ganpati is another name for Ganesh, the elephant deity believed to remove obstacles and worshipped as bringer of auspiciousness. Every year Ganpati throughout India are immersed in water as part of celebrations in the God's honour. Mumbai is one of the most well-known areas for its observation of this festival.
