Gold tikaFriday, 9th September 2005 (4141 views) The gold tika is back. According to India's Deccan Herald the tika, sometimes called matha pathi, tikli or maang tika, has found a fresh following.A tika is commonly made of gold and attaches to the front of a hair parting to decorate the forehead. It forms a fundamental part of the Hindu marriage outfit and gold is the traditional metal of choice. However, perhaps influenced by the popularity of tikas in Bollywood films, Indians are experimenting with more daring tikas. Tikas can be made to incorporate diamonds, coloured beads and other objects. Nevertheless, the most common use of the tika is in Indian weddings. The bride will also be wearing other gold jewellery, the style of which will be dictated by the region she comes from. For example, a girl from a conventional Punjabi family might wear heavy jewellery embellished with coloured stones.
