Purple gold could become the latest crazeWednesday, 7th September 2005 (7397 views) Purple gold could become the latest craze as sales of the metal begin to take-off in Singapore.Containing approximately 80 per cent pure gold, purple gold is created by the chemical reaction that occurs when gold is combined with metals like palladium and aluminium. It was invented by a professor of metallurgy at Singapore Polytechnic and is now sold by Aspial-Lee Hwa Jewellery, which owns the patent, reports Reuters. Purple gold is used like a gem to adorn jewellery and frequently used to enhance diamond articles and pieces made from white gold. Unlike its yellow relative, purple gold is not sold in ounces and can usually only be purchased as part of a piece of jewellery. Singapore's largest jewellers, Aspial-Lee Hwa Jewellery, was the first company to market the product and its marketing manager, Kean Ng, declared: "We are confident it will not be too long before every woman in Singapore desires purple gold jewellery." The company has developed purple gold that can withstand the processes needed to turn it into jewellery.
