Wednesday, 7th September 2005 (3922 views)

Jagjit Singh was presented with an 18-carat gold Ashtavinayak at the launch of his new album. The piece incorporates eight various forms of the Hindu deity Ganesha.

His album, Shri Ganesh, was launched at Planet M in Mumbai in conjunction with a jewellery offer, reports India's Smash Hits.

Ace Jewels will give each person purchasing Mr Singh's new album a voucher for Rs1,000 off its products.

From the time their first album The Unforgettables came out in 1976 to the present day, husband-wife team Jagjit and Chitra Singh have had a popular following.

They make music in the Ghalib style and were credited in 1998 with the Sahitya Academy Award for popularising the genre after being influenced by a variety of classical and western music styles.

Ganesha is the Hindu deity of prosperity and learning widely worshipped throughout India.
