Popular women's magazine, Bella, has highlighted gold orchid jewellery as a Christmas present to ask for this year.

Sites such as the Golden Orchid sell solid gold earrings, pendants, pins and sculptures each in the form of an actual orchid flower.

Moulds are not used to produce the 18-carat solid yellow gold flowers, so each creation is a hand crafted, exact replica of an orchid.

Another innovative idea is jewellery made from preserved Dendrobium flowers, which come trimmed with gold.

This jewellery is available from Fonseca Accessories, an online shop, which specially grows the orchids before scientifically preserving them.

It then coats them in a high-gloss and trims them with 24-carat gold plate around the edges and on the back to form a piece of jewellery.

Fonseca Accessories' orchid related jewellery retails from $19 and pieces such as the Golden Orchid's 18-carat gold Dendrobium aggraetum earrings, with a 20-carat yellow gold clip retail for $1,870.
