Kanhai gold paintingMonday, 5th September 2005 (3973 views) A month-long workshop on 'Kanhai Gold Paintings', will take place in Calcutta. The workshop aims to familiarise attendees with the art, which its artists produce in order to get closer to Lord Krishna. Kanhai Chitrakar pioneered the painting style, which differs from traditional Rajasthani art as it uses more gold, and is now teaching it more widely for the first time, reports the Hindustani Times. Kanhai gold paintings use a lot of gold and not much ink. They also incorporate semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals. "These paintings have expressions and feelings. They are proportionate unlike the Tanjore paintings where they have thick face and stout figure. The gold used is 24-carat pure gold," said Govind, Kanhai's son. The Kanhai family aim to spread knowledge of their art and worship Lord Krishna in the process.
