When playing in the US Opens both the Williams sisters complimented their sparkling tennis skills with some no less sparkling jewellery.

Venus Williams sported a pearl and turquoise necklace with gold beads and tourmalines, according to the Associated Press.

This definitely did not hamper her game as she went on to win against Rika Fujiwara of Japan by 6-3 and 6-1.

Meanwhile, Serena wore diamond earrings worth $40,000, which she had to remove during play after one of them fell off.

Commenting on her sister's glitzy earrings, Venus said, "I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from Serena Williams."

Ms S Williams defeated her opponent Yung-Jan Chan of Taiwan by 6-1 and 6-3.

Jewellery frequently features around the necks of sporting stars such as the Venus sisters and even Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj who kissed his gold chain when he won the 1,500 metres in the World Championships.
