The popular Indian film star Bappi Lahiri has announced his plans to develop a jewellery line.

The veteran of more than 450 films has a penchant for all things bling and is famed for sporting ostentatious gold jewellery.

Mr Lahiri claims to have started the trend for all things bling.

"I started the trend almost 30 years ago when I got into the industry. My inspiration, however, was Elvis Presley who sported a huge cross chain," he told the Times of India.

Several jewellery brands have reportedly approached him to front their campaigns but he would prefer to front his own line, according to Express India.

Mr Lahiri's latest venture is as the host on a music-related reality show.
