Rebecca Norman is known for its sophisticated and fashion-forward jewellery and since June customers have been able to snap up one of the creations at its namesake's Solana Beach store located near San Diego.

The owner has been creating jewellery pieces for five years and uses a variety of media including gold.

"I've been in the workshop for so long; now I'm really getting into business development. Retail is thrilling to me because I get to deal directly with the customer," Ms Norman told the Union Tribune.

Before opening her Californian shop she was a wholesaler and sold via catalogues.

Pieces in her fine jewellery collection include an amethyst and shell macramé bracelet with 22-carat gold and 18-carat gold oval hoop earrings with rubies.

She recently exhibited at the august Designers & Agents exhibition in Los Angeles, which acts as an independent and international marketplace.
