Anyone with an interest in gold is invited to take part in the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices' (CRJP's) consultation.

The CRJP's website states that it has drawn up a series of ethical, social and environmental principles to "maintain consumer confidence in the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain".

Its consultation is expected to run until the end of 2005 and will investigate views about the principles it has written for the industry.

Nurturing high standards, monitoring practises within the industry and ongoing education initiatives are some of its aims on its drive towards business responsibility.

Businesses which have already joined the CRJP include Cartier, Tiffany & Co and the gold company Newmont.
