Wednesday, 17th August 2005 (6553 views) The four-day 29th Danny Thompson memorial golf tournament in Idaho hopes to raise money for leukaemia with the help of a $20,000 gold Rolex watch.<br/><br/>The watch is one of the prizes in the Thompson Memorial silent auction, which is the "biggest single moneymaker at the tournament" according to Georgie Fenton, the tournament director.<br/><br/>Celebrities supporting the event include two cast members of the popular 1980s cop show 'Hill Street Blues', hockey league player Craig Ludwig and baseball player Bill Buckner.<br/><br/>Since it began, the Thompson Memorial has raised $7,305,500 for cancer research, which has gone to the University of Minnesota Leukemia Research Foundation and Mountain States Tumor Institute of Boise.<br/><br/>Gold is commonly used as an alloy in watch production as this makes it less prone to scratching.<br/><br/><br/><img alt="track" src='http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15025290'/>© Adfero Ltd
