White gold wedding ringsMonday, 15th August 2005 (4520 views) White gold is becoming more popular than traditional yellow gold for US wedding rings, according to a national survey. The survey by WeddingChannel.com showed that 29 per cent of brides choose platinum settings and 48 per cent go with white gold, whereas only 15 per cent have yellow gold as their first option for engagement and wedding rings. On average an engagement ring costs $4,976 and the diamonds average 1.4 carats. Platinum is twice as expensive as gold and more costly to manufacture which is why white gold is becoming an increasingly popular alternative. There is evidence that brides are getting more discerning with 59 per cent picking their own ring or at least giving the groom a very good idea of what they want. Spurred on by celebrity trends, wedding couples are experimenting with different types of gold and other metals, including pink gold, often called rose gold, in addition to white gold and platinum. © Adfero Ltd
