Thursday, 11th August 2005 (6362 views) Gold jewellery has become increasing popular with the spread of hip-hop culture and gold's celebrity endorsement, as a new book out this month can testify.<br/> <br/>Minya Oh chases gold's rise in her new book 'Bling Bling: Hip-Hop's Crown Jewels' which hits the shops on August 21st.<br/> <br/>Hip-hoppers Nelly and 50 Cent are famous gold-wearers and are 'frosted' (the modern term replacing 'bling') up to the max.<br/> <br/>Some artists have taken ostentatious and expensive jewellery to extremes such as 80s legend Slick Rick whose teeth were 'blinged up' with a three-carat diamond. <br/><br/>Sports legend Antonio Brown of the Washington Redskins American football team also famously has four gold teeth, which demonstrates the crossover appeal of gold jewellery.<br/> <br/>"Hip-hop artists were the ones who were leading the way to have this amazing, beautiful fantasylike view where there is no such thing as too much," says Minya Oh.<br/> <br/>Yet this hip-hop dream world of gold accessories has mainstream appeal as well as finding its way to upmarket shops such as Cartier.<br/> <br/>With a new generation of celebrities wearing gold, the trend for luxury doesn't look likely to stop.<br/><br/><br/><img alt="track" src='http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15021240'/>© Adfero Ltd
