Beaten gold focus of Israeli exhibitionFriday, 15th July 2005 (4349 views) Israel is preparing to hold the third of a series of contemporary jewellery exhibitions.Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv will hold a display of beaten gold, with 70 designers displaying their works. Beaten gold, in the context of biblical jewellery manufacturing, means gold items that have been ground, sharpened, flattened and then hammered out to create a rough texture. Participants include architects, product designers and jewellery makers, who were asked to relate in their works to the link between art and industry. The relationship with industry is expressed primarily in the recycling of materials rather than in the actual manufacture of jewellery. "The tension between the words 'gold' and 'beaten' arouses much curiosity from the moment we take a close look at the link between art and industry," explained the curator of the museum, Deganit Stern Schocken.
