Nelson Mandela's image will appear on 9000 gold coins to be sold in South Africa.

The former president has made an out of court settlement with coin trader Investgold, who will produce the coins for six more months.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation will receive a percentage of the proceeds of sale of the collectable items.

The coins will be available in three varying sizes ranging in price from R3500 to R70000.

Investgold have been granted exclusive rights to the words "President Mandela" and the statesman's image, which are to be embossed on the collection.

The agreement with the Mandela Foundation is for six months but the company can resell the coins on secondary markets.

However, they are likely to be in high demand and time is ticking for collectors to get their orders in.
