LPGA tour awards necklace to competition champTuesday, 5th July 2005 (4017 views) The inaugural HSBC Women's Match Play Competition certainly spared no expense when rewarding the victors, with prize money totalling $1,000,000 ranking alongside a fabulous piece of jewellery.Divided up among the top-three placed women, the prize money made a nice bonus for eventual victor Marisa Baena, who came back from a poor initial ranking to claim the match-play title, the money and a gold necklace that was encrusted with diamonds and rubies. A 28-year old native of Columbia, Baena was certainly delighted with her victory saying, "I'm sure in Columbia people are going crazy right now", since she is the first golfer from Columbia to ever win a LPGA tour competition. Although it is not the most "bling" of sports, Marisa will doubtlessly be caught sporting her necklace sometime in the very near future!
