Technology helps sharpen Californian gold jewelleryWednesday, 8th June 2005 (4122 views) Californian jewellers have been given a boost from modern technology when it comes to perfecting their artistry. At Emerson & Farrar, in addition to using the more traditional tools and techniques, crafting jewellery involves the use of modern, computer-aided design and milling to take an idea from design to completed piece. The new technology allows pieces to be created with a speed and precision not possible before. "This technology enhances our ability to exceed our customers' expectations while making the customer an intimate part of the design process," Californian store owner Paul Emerson told Redlands Daily Facts. Customers can better visualize how the finished piece will look, seeing it in a variety of three-dimensional views on the computer screen. The new techniques look set to replace the traditional methods of drawing a design and then creating a wax model by giving greater flexibility to customers before the was mould is made, making the whole process faster and more accurate.
