New Zealand Post has produced a programme of three legal tender commemorative coins to mark the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2005.

In association with The Royal British Mint, the innovative coin series features a design by artist Michael Guilfoyle depicting a running rugby player against an outline of New Zealand and the Lion's Crest.

The coins, like the actual tickets to games, are limited in number.

The issue consists of a 22-carat gold coin with a mintage of 1000, a sterling silver coin with a mintage of 5000 and a nickel-brass coin with a mintage of 50,000.

In addition to the coins, New Zealand Post has produced a stamp issue featuring two of the most infamous symbols in world rugby - the jerseys of the All Blacks and the Lions.

Both the commemorative coin programme and the stamp series will be available in post offices throughout New Zealand from June 1st 2005.
