Online jewellery sales set to increase

Wednesday, 25th May 2005 (4522 views)

A new report has suggested that online sales of luxury goods and jewellery are set to increase by 31 per cent this year.

State of Retailing Online 8.0, by Forrester Research, claims that US online sales will reach $172 billion in 2005, according to National Jeweler.

Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, said: "Though initially adopted by men as a shopping tool, women are flocking to the internet in droves to comparison shop, research, and buy.

"Online retailers who sell products that are purchased by women are in a favourable position this year, as we expect those categories to grow substantially."

With women said to be increasingly buying their own gold jewellery, online retailers have a key market to target.track
