Chanel acquires prestigious goldsmith

Wednesday, 11th May 2005 (4393 views)

A prestigious goldsmith whose name is synonymous with luxury jewellery has been acquired by the Chanel couture house.

Robert Goossens has been bought by the fashion house, bringing the Paris-based gold and silversmith back into the Chanel fold, Women's Wear Daily reports.

The expert jewellery-maker collaborated with Coco Chanel on some of her most iconic jewellery designs from 1955 until her death in 1971.

The Goossens of today, now run by its founder's son Patrick, sells its own signature brand from a boutique on the Avenue George V, as well as creating jewellery for various prestigious fashion clients.

Robert Goossens was famous for his innovative designs using a wealth of source material.

"I am the naive genius of jewellery," Mr Goossens is quoted as saying. "I take a pinch of Byzantine, a hint of Etruscan, a sprinkling of Celtic or Egyptian, and I make a Goossens cocktail."track
