Titanic watch auctionedWednesday, 4th May 2005 (4199 views) An 18-carat gold watch that belonged to an Irish immigrant who survived the Titanic sinking has raised a record amount. The pocket watch stopped on the day the ship sank and has not worked since, but it made £13,000 at auction - three times its estimate. The watch was part of an auction of items rescued from the liner, which took place in Massachusetts. Its owner, Nora Keane was originally given the watch as a good luck gift. Ms Keane was saved from the disaster by a lifeboat. A special message was engraved on the back that read: "To my dearest Nora, your visit to County Limerick warmed my heart. God bless and be with you on your return to Pennsylvania. Loving mother."
