Wednesday, 27th April 2005 (6245 views) Jewellery and flowers are the most popular gifts of choice this Mother's Day in the US.<br/><br/>According to a new survey, US daughters and sons are looking to purchase a combination of glamorous jewellery and fancy floral bouquets for the event next month, with 55 per cent opting for flowers and jewellery as the best gift.<br/><br/>In addition, jewellery on its own went up in popularity, with a two per cent increase in the amount of people wanting to buy fine jewellery as a gift.<br/><br/>However marketing opportunities for jewellers have been identified in the survey, with 42 per cent still unsure what to buy.<br/><br/>According to the report by the Jewelery Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC), customers prefer to shop in national jewellery chain stores and local independent fine jewellers.<br/><br/>Children appear to be guessing correctly with their present choices, since figures also showed mothers want jewellery as a present, with nearly 32 per cent of respondents choosing it.<br/><br/>The most noticeable trend however is gold, with nearly 44 per cent of mums preferring yellow gold and a quarter hoping for white gold as the metals of choice.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8369913"/>
