Tuesday, 26th April 2005 (6209 views) A London jewellery firm is offering innovative jewellery, which could help save elephants at threat from ivory traders.<br/><br/>DeMEC, is a jewellers set up by Antonio DeMendoza and his wife and uses vegetable ivory to create items.<br/><br/>A host of elegant necklaces, earrings and bracelets are designed by Maria DeMondoza and her sister, combining the ivory with gold or other precious metals.<br/><br/>Anthony Power, a London-based jewellery designer, told CNN: "I don't like working with ivory knowing the environmental costs of it so ivory is a complete no-no If I wanted to design something that provided what ivory does then this is an alternative."<br/><br/>The items are sold at various markets around London and the company tries to educate people on the product that could help to save elephants and rainforests.<br/><br/>Vegetable ivory is an organic material found in South American rainforests, however it is a major commodity and looks like real ivory.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8364557"/>
