Fashion industry feels gold is goodMonday, 25th April 2005 (4217 views) Accessories and jewellery are once again returning to the popular precious metal gold rather than settling for silver.According to the Financial Times, gold is now being seen as the colour and metal of the moment, particularly promoted with the latest "Goddess" look. In addition, ethnic looks are creating a demand for gold accessories and luxury goods houses are getting enthusiastic about gold lizard and crocodile accessories. At present Selfridges has a Las-Vegas style theme in store, with shoes, bag, belts and luggage all going for gold for spring. Women's current fashion trends also call for gold jewellery, with gold cuffs, plenty of gold bangles and big rings all proving popular. "It looks great with just about everything," Vanessa Lunt of Mulberry said, explaining fashion's new passion for gold. Another brand looking to add glamour with gold is Burberry which is said to have Blackberry and iPod gold covers planned. Jewellery companies which are looking to promote gold as the best metal include Cartier who recently launched the Baiser du Dragon range of gold pendants threaded on a black thong. It is now launching Le Panthere de Cartier, a new collection featuring pendants, rings and earrings made from 22-carat yellow gold and featuring panther head motifs. "Yellow gold is definitely coming back," a Cartier spokeswoman commented. "White gold and platinum have been in fashion for so long that it is time for a change." The other big story, which could be more popular with fair-skinned consumers is rose gold, which is more of a pink, copper-coloured shade.
